Rio Olympics 2016: Simone Manuel Becomes First Black Female Swimmer To Win Olympic Gold Medal


20-old-year American swimmer, Simone Manuel, has emerged first black woman to win Olympic gold in a swimming event at the Olympics.

Manuel alongside Canada’s Penny Oleksiak,16, won the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle event at the #RioOlympics2016 on Thursday night.

The swimmer broke down in tears when she discovered she had won gold. She clocked in at 52.70secs and set a new Olympic record.
