French celebrity magazine, Closer has been ordered to pay £92,000 in damages to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for publishing topless photos of Kate Middleton.

The case dated back when Princess Kate and her husband Prince Williams were on a goodwill tour in 2012 when the photos were taken.

Closer published her topless photo with a loud headline that said, “Oh My God!”, and shortly after, similar photos appeared on other media sites, causing the couple major embarrassment.

It was also reported that the angry couple considered £1.4million from French Closer magazine appropriate compensation for the upset and embarrassment caused by the photographs being distributed around the world.

The royal couple, who are expecting their third child did not appear in court, but the prince sent in a statement, expressing his outrage at the publication.

My wife and I thought that we could go to France for a few days in a secluded villa owned by a member of my family, and thus enjoy our privacy,” William said.

He added, “We know France and the French and we know that they are, in principle, respectful of private life, including that of their guests. The clandestine way in which these photographs were taken was particularly shocking to us as it breached our privacy.

The judgement, was handed down by presiding judge Florence Lasserre-Jeannin.
